I would like to share here how I got the idea for the Citizen of Heaven card.
Early in 2005 I was made redundant from my job as an Electronics Engineer with BAE Systems. I knew God was in it and He told me to wait 3 and half months without doing anything but seeking him.
One of the ways I did this was by going through the The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. This is a 40 days devotional that many people have found helpful. Friends had bought us the book when it had first come out but for various reasons we had not got round to doing it!
So when I got to day 6 and it started talking about " Life on earth is a temporary assignment." That got me thinking, especially how we can so often get distracted by the temporary and forget the eternal. Then I remembered the WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) wrist bands and many other things that had this acronym on. Then God dropped into my mind the idea of a card which would remind people that their citizenship is in heaven.
I wasn't sure if this idea was any good but I thought I'd test the idea out on my wife, Marjory. I actually thought she would not like the idea, so I shared it not expecting a good response. However, to my surprise Marjory thought it was a good idea.
Now I had to figure out what this card should look like and how to produce it. After trawling the internet I came across Premier Plastic Cards and saw that you could order some free samples. They arrived the next day and gave us some great ideas for what could be made. Marjory then approached a friend who was a graphic designer. She created the design we had in mind and produced a file we could send to the manufacturer.
We then ordered our first 200 using the format you see, matt gold with shiny gold. We have sold a few hundred or so in the past few years, but this is not exactly a huge number! Finding an outlet for them has been tricky, though we did sell some for a while through our local Wesley Owen store. Currently we just advertise them through this website and occasionally someone (like yourself) stumbles across this site and the cards and buys a dozen or so!
